ADGM
Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) is a financial free zone on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, established in 2013 and operational from 2015. It applies English common law directly, including English statutes as they apply from time to time, and is regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).
Why it matters
The practical distinction from the DIFC is the source of law. ADGM adopts English common law directly, so English case law applies without local re-enactment, whereas the DIFC enacts its own statutes drawing on common-law principles. Which suits a structure depends on the certainty and precedent a client needs.
