Residency

Golden Visa

A golden visa is a long-term residence permit granted on the basis of investment, professional standing or exceptional talent rather than employment sponsorship. The UAE programme issues renewable five- and ten-year permits and does not require a local employer or national sponsor.

Why it matters

A golden visa confers residence, not citizenship, and residence alone does not establish tax residence. Those are three separate statuses with three separate tests, and conflating them is the most common error we see in relocation planning. Programme criteria are set by cabinet decision and change; verify current terms before relying on them.
