Tax Residency Certificate

A Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) is an official document confirming that a person or entity was tax resident in a jurisdiction for a given period. In the UAE it is issued by the Federal Tax Authority and is the standard evidence required to claim relief under a double taxation agreement.

Why it matters

A TRC evidences residence; it does not by itself create it. The certificate reflects that the statutory conditions were met, so the substance — presence, ties, an established place of abode — has to exist first. It is also the document a former home jurisdiction will most often ask to see.
